I grew up in the Philippines. My grandparents are from China. We speak Fookien at home, speak Tagalog outside and learn English and Mandarin at school. Learning how to use chopstick was very essential when we were growing up because that's how we get to go to the Chinese restaurant to attend celebrations like wedding or birthdays. Those meals were called Laureats where they served 10 big courses. There were always peanuts as appetizers, We got a lot of practice with our chopsticks.
At work, our hands are always dirty. We wash our hands hundred of times. So how do I grab a quick bite without the need to wash my hands? Chopsticks!
