This is my day job. I am a Family Physician. I have been in the medical field for the last 25 years. When I last made an estimate, I probably saw 200,000 patients. I am also a burnout physician. It is sad to say that not many people think about this group of physicians. We are expected to do more and more. We are expected to be compassionate to patients. But on the other hand, who gives compassion to the physicians? The healthcare system in America is sick. If we continue the present trend, more and more physicians are going to quit. I fear for the healthcare of our grandchildren!
So, if you are a physician, take care of yourself. Starting January 1, 2014, I am cutting my hours to 3.5 days a week at work. If you have friends or family who are physicians, ask them if they are doing well. Give them some compassion. Give them some help. If you are seeing a physician, ask them if they have time for themselves, if they are rested.
I hope this little post will make a difference.
